Elmhurst invests in conversion to Doubletree Hotel
In September 2005, after undergoing a $12 million renovation, the former Ramada Plaza Suites opened as the Doubletree Hotel Pittsburgh City Center. The Doubletree offers 310 modern guest rooms, suites and executive accommodations with ultra-comfortable "Sweet Dreams" beds. Hotel amenities include an on-site garage, indoor pool, massage and day spa facilities, as well as access to the state-of-the-art Downtown Athletic Club. Business travelers will appreciate the 24-hour business center and flexible meeting spaces. Well-appointed banquet and function areas can accommodate up to 500 guests for conferences, luncheons, receptions or social events. Contemporary American cuisine is offered in the new Bigelow Grille, highlighting regional fare with a Pittsburgh flair.

Hotel Management Capabilities
Elmhurst's roots are in ownership and management. We understand ownership concerns, marketing trends and operational/financial controls needed for successful operation of hotel properties.

We provide site selection, underwriting and construction expertise. Our early focus was the conversion of The Bigelow Apartments, located in Pittsburgh, Pa., into a full-service hotel. This process took years and significant investment. In 1988 Elmhurst entered into a franchise agreement with the Ramada brand and since then has made many more improvements. In 2005, the hotel underwent a $12 million renovation and joined the Hilton family of hotels as the Doubletree Hotel - Pittsburgh City Center.

In terms of hospitality management, during the early 1990s, Elmhurst successfully turned around the 220-room Hotel Brunswick in downtown Lancaster, Pa.

In 2-1/2 years under our management, the hotel's revenue and profitability rose to a level that allowed the owners, Penn Mutual, to successfully sell the property at a premium.
